When social workers use solution-focused therapy to work with a client, they employ a variety of principles and techniques. For example, social workers may de-emphasize client problems, look for previous solutions to client problems, and use the compliments technique to work with clients. Using these techniques and others in solution-focused therapy is important to the success of the intervention.

For this Assignment, review the case studies:

Jessica is a 21-year-old college student who comes to the campus counseling center for assistance. Her main concern is a lack of energy and loss of interest in her classes and social activities. She is a junior Psychology major and has a 3.1 grade point average (GPA). She states that, since the beginning of the semester, she has not been attending classes. She estimates she has missed half of her classes in the last 2 weeks. She reports she uses an alarm clock to wake up and generally sleeps 7- to 8-hours per night. However, this semester, she sets the alarm but does not get up when it goes off in the morning. Instead, she covers up her head and does not get up. She states that she does not go back to sleep but also does not get up and prepare for class.  She denies any alcohol or drug use that might have changed her energy level. She visited the health clinic and no physical issues were identified. The health clinic referred her to you. When asked if she thinks she is depressed, she states, “no, just unmotivated.” She states that there have been no major changes in her life. She feels very guilty about the situation and is afraid, if this behavior continues, she may be risking her education.    

Think about intervention and assessment strategies that you might use based on the case study. Consider how you might use compliments and at least one other technique associated with solution-focused therapy to work with the clients in case study you selected. Must have effective references

In this assignment you will summarize beliefs about the origin of the universe and life, including what Christians believe, what you believe, and how people’s beliefs about origins might impact how they live.

After reflecting on Chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis, create a 15-slide PowerPoint presentation covering the following topics, paying particular emphasis on item three:

1. Briefly explain the Genesis account of creation (first two chapters). The point is not to retell all aspects of the story in detail but just to make the message of the Bible clear.
2. Explain and support your interpretation of the origin of the universe. Here you may want to address evolution, age of the earth, and whether or not it can be reconciled with the message of the Bible.
3. Express how your understanding of the origin of the universe impacts your worldview, specifically your view of God, of humanity, and responsibility to care for the earth.

The first slide will be the title slide including your name and course information. The last slide(s) will be your list of references. You may use the textbook, the lecture, or other scholarly references. Cite all sources, including the Bible, as you would in an essay. The in-text citations should be placed on the actual slides in the presentation so the audience can see them. Put basic content on the actual slides and elaborate on all your points in the slide notes.

In an effort to keep the file sizes reasonable, use no more than four low-resolution images. As in all aspects of this course, show respect for all other views, with no condescension. Keep your presentation positive and focused on what you believe, not on what you do not believe.

Use one to three resources, other than the Bible.

Personal Statement (for those with the Graduate School focus)

This essay may be the single most influential component of a graduate school application. The statement you write for this portfolio gives you a forum for presenting yourself to the admissions committee, scholarship committee, and others who want to know something about you.

In preparation for writing the statement, conduct an Internet search for these key words “Preparing Personal Statements” to find several sources. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

• find and use your voice
• use concrete examples of what you’ve done
• avoid generalizations, such as “I’m good with people”
• proofread and edit (and ask others to proofread and make suggestions about) your statement to be sure it is free of grammatical and typographical errors, and informal language, “I’m okay with sciences but weak in math”

Cover Letter (for those with the Employment focus)

A cover letter is a way to introduce yourself to a potential employer. This letter should include details about yourself and why you feel you are qualified for the position. Summarize your undergraduate experiences, your strengths and weaknesses, the reasons you are applying, and how they will help you meet your professional goals.

Write a cover letter to a prospective employer. The letter, which should accompany your resume, should summarize why you are interested in the job and what qualifications and skills make you an ideal candidate or match for the position. Limit your letter to one page.

Topic 1: Criminal Act

The police videotaped an apparent drug deal, wherein Beth sold a bag of apparent marijuana to Miriam. Both women were arrested and charged with drug offenses. The laboratory analysis of the apparent marijuana revealed that it was actually some dried leafy material mixed with other legal materials. The defense attorneys for both defendants have argued that no crime was committed and the charges should be dropped. As the prosecutor, would you drop the charges? Be sure to address the charges for both actors here and please explain your answer.

Topic 2: Inchoate Offenses

Discuss the primary differences between the inchoate offenses of conspiracy, attempt, and solicitation. Discuss the differences in both actus reus and mens rea. In your opinion, should the classification for any of these offenses be higher, or lower, than the others. Explain.
