Assignment Info

For this unit 4 assignment paper, go to the Kaplan University online library. Download a peer reviewed research related journal article that is of interest to you and your chosen specialization and future profession I/O psychology. The article must review a specific research study (i.e., with a specific research hypothesis, do not use an article which is a review of the literature).

Make sure that you follow the  grading rubric attached to ensure that you are meeting all grading criteria and assignment requirements.

Watch the video at http://ed.ted.com/on/cDhYHA9B#watch to understand what a peer reviewed research article is.

In completing this assignment, you will be asked to utilize and demonstrate use of all skills gained over Units 1 through 4.

Using the “Critical Writing: Using the Core Process to Write a Paper (pgs 190 – 195) from our textbook “Learning to Think Things Through: A guide to critical thinking across the curriculum” critically work through the six step process on analyzing the article and writing a critical review of the article. Make sure you are incorporating the circle of elements (Chapter 2) SEE-I method (Chapter 1) and the Standards Check (Chapter 4). These steps will be your guide as you read, reflect, evaluate, analyze, apply and write a critical review of your chosen article.

Your paper should be 4 – 5 pages (double spaced, 1” margins) in length, not including the title page or reference page. No abstract is required.  Your paper should be formatted using APA style (6th edition) with proper page formatting, title page formatting, headings, in text citations, and reference list. You must include at least two scholarly resources, your chosen article and one other resource. You may use one of the course textbooks or other scholarly resource to support your paper.

maturing out

.    Maturing Out
Members of the self-help community often refer to getting “sick and tired of being sick and tired” as a motivation for change. For this discussion:

• Explain, with examples, the concept known as “maturing out” of addiction (also known as natural recovery or spontaneous remission). How does this concept support or fail to
support the progressive nature of the disease models of addiction? How can we explain “maturing out” given the genetic origins of addictive behavior?

FPSY Discussion Question

Within the correctional setting there are a number of roles involved in the implementation of treatment plans for inmates with mental disorders. These roles include administrator, staff psychologist, case manager, forensic treatment specialist, therapeutic group leader, law enforcement advocate, correctional officer, unit manager, parole officer, and parole board member. Having a mental health background is required for some, while not required for others. Such a background can be critically important.

Mental health training dictates the level and type of interaction a professional may have with inmates. A staff psychologist has more influence on an inmate treatment plan, while a correctional officer has more influence on an inmate schedule, work assignment, or security level.

For this Discussion, you analyze roles of supporting professionals related to treatment plans in correctional settings. You also evaluate challenges of implementing treatment plans within correctional settings.

Given your assigned role, describe how it might be performed differently by someone with a forensic psychology background versus someone without. In general, what challenges exist when implementing treatment plans in correctional settings?

discrimination

Reflections on Racial Discrimination

Franklin hears about people being discriminated against at the workplace and in society but rarely experiences it first hand. Cortez, on the other hand, speaks English poorly and is often subject to derogatory comments from peers and coworkers.

Reflect on your experience with racial discrimination.

Identify examples of racial discrimination and provide examples you have personally witnessed or heard about firsthand from the following three realms:

  • family
  • work place
  • community

Write a brief summary that includes the following:

  • Describe a racial incident pertaining to each realm in detail. Explain why you believe this is racial discrimination.
  • Explain how this situation could have been handled to avoid discrimination against those belonging to another race.

. Your response should be at least two pages long. All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

The process of rehabilitation has two broad aims: helping the offender identify and change maladaptive patterns of thinking and behavior and reintegrating the offender into the community in a way that does not compromise public safety. In this module, your assigned readings have exposed you to two different models of sex offender rehabilitation: the RNR model and the GLM.

Using the module’s readings, the Argosy University online library resources, the Internet, and professional literature, conduct additional research on the RNR model and the GLM.

Based on your research, respond to the following:

  • Briefly describe the essential features of the RNR model and the GLM and analyze their strengths.
  • Provide an opinion about whether both models are equally effective in enhancing community safety.
  • Provide an opinion about whether both models are equally effective in promoting offender welfare.
  • Discuss two ethical issues that the forensic professional should consider when choosing between these two models of offender rehabilitation.

Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Your response should rely upon at least two additional sources from the professional literature. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .gov, and the apa.org website).

Compile your research in a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document

Assignment 1

Prepare

As you prepare to write this discussion, take a few moments to do the following:

  • Review the Modeled Discussion.
  • Read any required and recommended reading materials for this week, especially Chapter 9 from the text.

Reflect

Auteur theory in film suggests not only that a director is the primary author of a film, but also that the film must be analyzed within the context of the director’s other films. Directors create certain expectations with their films much in the same way authors create certain expectations with their writing. Are there directors whose work you always recognize when you see it? What qualities bind their works together?

WriteAs you construct your initial post, focus on the importance of auteur theory in film analysis and interpretation.

  • Name a director who you would consider an auteur and explain your reasoning.
  • Discuss the arguments against auteur theory and provide examples to support your points.
  • Examine how the auteur theory influences audiences and critics, using examples from film criticism, film marketing campaigns, and your own personal experience.

Include the name of the director you identified in the “Subject” line of your discussion. Your post should be at least 300 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly sources, and properly cite any references.

Assignment 2

Prepare

As we have been discussing, the mise en scène of a film is the use of a variety of design elements to create the visual theme. As you prepare to write this discussion, take a few moments to do the following:

  • Read any required and recommended reading materials for this week, referring back to Chapter 5 (Mise en Scene and Actors).
  • Select a full-length film from the AFI 10 Top 10 list. http://www.afi.com/10top10/

Reflect

Mise en scène refers to different technical elements used in making a film such as lighting and sound, both of which you have already analyzed in this course. The term also encompasses the role of actors in a film, their physical positioning and movements within the frame, as well as the different styles and types of acting.

You can classify an acting category using only one film as reference, but these categories are subject to change. Each new role helps to clarify or shift an actor’s designation. Do some actors always fall into the same category? How can actors change from category to category? Does genre have any effect on the acting styles present in a given film?

Write

Please view the video Adding Pictures and Video to Discussions and Introductions for guidance on how to integrate multimedia with your response. https://ashford.mediaspace.kaltura.com/media/Adding+Pictures+and+Video+to+Introductions+and+Discussions/0_bqh36hrs

Using specific examples from your chosen film, write a post of at least 300 words, which should:

  • Identify three actors from your film and classify each according to the acting category listed in your text.
  • Explain your reasons for classifying the actors as you do. Use specific references to the film and pay special attention to how these decisions impacted characterization. Also, consider the impact of any realistic or stylized portrayals within the film.
  • Focus on one of the actors you’ve discussed. Based on other films the actor has been in, would this actor always be placed in the same category? If so, what does this say about the category or actor? If not, what can you infer about the flexibility of these categories? Provide evidence (references from other films, including film clips and stills) to support your argument.

You must use at least two outside sources, in any combination of embedded video clips, still photos, or scholarly sources. All sources should be documented in APA style
